Right in the middle of the island
I stayed at this location in August/September 2017 and felt very welcome. The owners are lovely people and I plan to visit again in the future. Mangel Halto beach is literally around the (or a) corner. The mini supermarket on the same road was a blessing for cold drinks and snacks.
I borrowed some snorkeling gear and saw an eel, several tropical fish, a large hermit crab and thousands of tiny fish schooling close to the mangrove trees. One guy caught a large silver fish at dusk. All close to shore where your feet can still touch the sand. The drop off is very gradual and the beach is easy to access. Even small children can play in the water close to shore when supervised.
I enjoyed being in the middle of the island. It made it easy to explore the less touristic places like San Nicolas. That’s where you’ll find the actual local food. Ask the owners about the best hidden spots to eat. I do recommend renting a car or taking a tour with a guide.Public transport can be a bit of a gamble for those unfamiliar and the sun on Aruba is no joke when you’re waiting on a bus. A guide can take you to the real gems that you’ll drive past and miss on your own.
There’s a corner bakery in San Nicolas where you can get great hot sandwich and pastries. But you wouldn’t be able to tell from the exterior of the building that there’s some great food waiting for you inside.
